A video clip reveals the entry of counterfeit Iraqi currency into local markets

A video clip circulating on social media platforms in Iraq raised a state of anxiety among Iraqis after this clip revealed the pumping of banknotes of 25,000 Iraqi dinars into the markets, warning of what they described as a war of currency counterfeiting to destroy the economy.

The circulating video showed a comparison of one of the owners of exchange companies in Iraq between the original and the counterfeit banknote, as there is a large convergence between the two versions, which increases the difficulty of distinguishing between them except by resorting to counterfeit currency detectors.
The person whose voice appeared in the video warned that the counterfeit money that was pumped into the markets is very large, while appealing to the concerned authorities to find a solution before flooding the market with counterfeit currencies.
The Iraqis expressed through the platforms their fear of the collapse of the Iraqi currency as a result of the injection of counterfeit money into the markets, which would result in the problem of "inflation", and therefore the possibility of the collapse of the Iraqi dinar is possible.

The economist, Salam Sumaisem, wrote on her Twitter account, "One of the most severe means of economic destruction and wars of survival is counterfeiting money and flooding the country with it. Counterfeiting currency wars destroy the values of everything. It is a war of existence, whether or not there is an Iraq."

As for the economic researcher, Mustafa Jassem, he tweeted, "Between the anvil of hard currency smuggling and the counterfeiting of the local currency and the hammer of the US Federal Reserve, Iraq will join the countries with a collapsed currency that suffer from the problem of inflation, and the result of that is as dire as hunger and the collapse of the entire Iraqi economy."

It is worth noting that the Central Bank of Iraq has not yet issued any clarification about the circulating video and the information contained in it.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] punishes any person or entity that counterfeits currency and treats it as a “criminal.” Article 50 of the law states that “every person who mints or attempts to prepare to mint counterfeit money is considered to have committed a felony punishable by law by paying a fine not exceeding 50 million.” dinars or imprisonment for a period not exceeding 5 years, or both together.
The injection of counterfeit currency into the Iraqi markets coincides with the continued decline in the exchange value of the Iraqi dinar against the US dollar, which poses a real threat to the strength of the Iraqi dinar in the financial markets, both internally and externally.
Today, Tuesday, the exchange rate of the dollar in the parallel markets reached a record high of 1,690 dinars per dollar, while the Central Bank of Iraq sells it for 1,460 dinars.
The exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar began to deteriorate at the end of last November, after the Central Bank of Iraq excluded 4 private Iraqi banks from the auction platform for selling dollars at the central bank, following sanctions imposed by the US Federal Bank due to suspicions of corruption and money laundering.

This coincided with the launch of the Iraqi Central Bank, a new electronic platform for financial transfer operations, in line with the international financial transfer system known as "SWIFT", which reduced dollar sales at the currency auction to more than 50%.
