Shafaq News/ The Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs in Kurdistan Region, Peshtwan Sadiq, stated on Saturday that the region is seeking to draft a constitution whose articles include clauses that preserve the rights of minorities.
This came in a speech he delivered during the first conference of the Turkmen National Administrative Party in Erbil with the participation of 150 members of the party and the presence of representatives of other Kurdish parties.

The head of the Turkmen Administrative Party, inaugurating the conference, said, "In the Kurdistan Region, there is an opportunity to practice political activities because it has a form of democracy and a space and opportunity for coexistence between religions and nationalities."
In turn, the Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, representative of the regional government at the conference, said that the Kurdistan Region is a beautiful model of coexistence at the level of the Middle East, adding that we have a parliament and a government in the region that includes representatives of parties and religions.
He continued by saying that now in Kurdistan we are trying to draft a constitution that includes clauses to protect the rights of minorities and components.
And the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, announced in the summer of 2021 that the presidency of the region will start taking practical steps to write a constitution for the Kurdistan Region in cooperation with the region's parliament.
President Nechirvan Barzani said at the time, "There was a lot of talk about unity and the constitution, but what I want to say is that the constitution is a mechanism for a specific goal."
He added, "We want, through the constitution, to organize political governance in the region, for rule to be law, and for everyone to feel safe in the region."
Barzani pointed out, "We have many components in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and we originally do not describe the components as minorities, because the beauty of the region is in the mosaic that it includes," adding, "The beauty of Kurdistan is possible in the presence of these components, and the constitution must give them reassurances."
He pointed out that "the constitution of the Kurdistan Region must give reassurances to the components. It will not be for a party, component, or sect, but for all Kurdistanis, and for this it must be a reflection of all."
Barzani said, "We will start taking practical steps to write a constitution with the parliament and the regional government, and that it be a constitution that gives hope to all Kurdistanis."
