Cutting off corruption and ensuring that oil is not sold outside the framework of the state is what the Sudanese government has worked on by taking a series of decisions that guarantee the sale of the region’s oil through the National Oil Marketing Company “SOMO”, and the receipt of the sums obtained from the sale of oil through an intermediary bank in which the funds for selling oil across the region are placed.
A member of the Parliamentary Oil Committee, Suhaila Al-Sultani, said in a press interview seen by Taqaddam, that “most political parties stand by the decisions of the Federal Court regarding not handing over the region’s budget from the central government unless the region surrenders oil and gas revenues, in addition to that there is a parliamentary move to add A paragraph in the general budget that includes obligating the region to hand over oil revenues to the central government.
On the other hand, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ghiath Al-Sorji, confirmed in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “there is optimism about the agreements on the oil file between Baghdad and Erbil, despite the fact that more than 80 percent of Kurdistan’s imports come through the export of oil through Turkey. As the closing of Turkey's doors to the export of the region's oil leads to the handing over of the oil file to Baghdad so that the SOMO Oil Marketing Company can sell and export it, and thus the region obtains its budget from the center, and the Union stands by the sale and export of oil through the SOMO company in order to ensure that the region's share of budget.”
On the other hand, the representative of the State of Law Coalition, Jassem Atwan, explained in a press interview, which was seen by “Takadum,” that “the money that is collected from the oil fields, exports, and border crossings in the Kurdistan region must reach Baghdad, as it is a right for all the people, that there are financial dues on The region is due to be paid to Baghdad, at a time when Erbil is seeking to postpone its delivery to the federal government, which may constitute an obstacle in the political agreements between Baghdad and Erbil.” To deliver it to Baghdad in the form of installments, as obliging the region to pay it in one payment may constitute an obstacle in the negotiations.
