    Information / Baghdad..
The representative of Basra Governorate, Mustafa Sanad, warned, on Tuesday, of the consequences of continuing oil extraction operations without environmental solutions in Basra Governorate, calling on the government to do justice to the province within the budget.

Sanad said, in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, that "the abundance of oil projects and the scarcity of water may turn Basra into a desert," noting that "Basra has been wronged a lot, and it must be fair in the 2023 budget."
He added, "Basra worked to increase its production by 400,000 barrels per day due to the suspension of oil exports through Kurdistan, which caused pressure on the Basra environment and an increase in the number of cancer cases due to the large pollution."
Sanad stressed "the necessity of granting civil rights its legitimate rights for its historical, strategic and future role in the lives of all Iraqis," explaining that "the budget for the year 2023 did not do justice to Basra and its people, who are exposed daily to environmental and health damages as a result of oil extraction, production and export operations."
On Tuesday, the representative of Dhi Qar Governorate, Aref Al-Hamami, described the 2023 budget as unfair and appropriate to the volume of sacrifices in the central and southern governorates, calling on the government to reconsider all allocations for the southern governorates. End / 25 h
