[size=45]An Iraqi court has handed down life sentences to five people for killing an American citizen in November, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior on Thursday.[/size]
[size=45]The statement said that an Iranian citizen and 4 Iraqis were convicted of killing American citizen Stephen Troell, without mentioning the names of the five individuals.[/size]
[size=45]In November, two armed men attacked a car Troell was driving in downtown Baghdad, security sources told CNN last year.[/size]
[size=45]Stephen Troell was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical care, but later died of his injuries.[/size]
[size=45]The Interior Ministry statement said Iraqi authorities are still searching for four other suspects involved in Trowell's killing, who are still at large.[/size]
[size=45]Stephen Troell had been living in Baghdad for two years, and worked for a civil society organization that taught English to Iraqis.[/size]
[size=45]On Thursday, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that the department "welcomed" the Iraqi court's decision, and added: "It is important that all those responsible for the brutal and deliberate assassination of Troel face justice and accountability."[/size]
