The Turkish authorities are making strenuous efforts to coordinate with the Iraqi side with the aim of stopping the attacks launched from time to time by Kurdistan Workers' Party militants from Kurdistan, the most recent of which was the attack near government headquarters in Ankara last Sunday, amid talk of the imminent signing of a security agreement to secure the border strip between the two countries.
The Turkish side believes that it is not possible to reach understandings with the Iraqi side regarding securing the borders without obtaining the approval of the Popular Mobilization Forces and Iraqi political forces loyal to Iran that dominate the political scene in Baghdad.
In the midst of this conviction, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with the head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, Faleh al-Fayyadh, in the capital, Ankara, following the visit of Iraqi Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad al-Abbasi to Ankara to meet with his Turkish counterpart, Yasar Guler.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a post on its account on the “X” platform, on Friday (October 6, 2023), that Minister Fidan met with the head of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Faleh Al-Fayyad.
Fidan's meeting with Falih Al-Fayyad comes amid reports of an alliance that brings together parties in the PMF with the Kurds, especially in the Sinjar region, which has become an important stronghold for the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeatedly threatened to target Sinjar, but he was met with a strong response from Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces officials.
In what was described as an understanding of Turkey's security concerns, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani called for strengthening security cooperation with Turkey by securing the borders by concluding a security agreement similar to the agreement with Iran.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, said in a statement, “The Sudanese directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to communicate with his Turkish counterpart regarding activating the bilateral security committees to address border security problems.”
Today, Saturday (October 7, 2023), the Turkish President issued strong warnings to what he described as parties that want to surround Turkey with terrorist organizations, in what was understood to be a message to Washington, which warned Ankara against launching a large military operation in northern Syria after bringing down a Turkish march.
Erdogan stressed on Saturday that his country does not yield to those who try to push it into a corner by using terrorist organizations.
He added, "We do not bow to those who try to corner us using terrorist organizations, and we do not hesitate to do whatever Turkey's security and interests require, whatever the cost."
This came in a speech to the citizens gathered in front of the Ankara Sports Hall before the fourth extraordinary conference of the Justice and Development Party.
He said, "We are determined to achieve Turkey's goals. We do not care about those who try to discourage us, and we do not make concessions to those who try to direct veiled threats to us."
In recent days, Turkey launched massive attacks on Kurdish rebel positions in northern Syria and Iraq.
