    Baghdad today - Diyala
Several reasons contributed to the survival of the most important security services headquarters in the city centers of Diyala, including the police command, in order to maintain the momentum of confronting terrorism and organized crime and to contain any attempts at unrest, in addition to its direct support to local governments in the face of any emergency. But with the stability and expansion of the formations, their presence within their geographical scope began to raise many problems in accommodating the increase in numbers, which necessitated reviving a project postponed for 50 years to build headquarters outside the residential belts.
Today, Saturday (October 14, 2023), a security source announced the start of the first phase of the project to build the Diyala Police Command headquarters in the vicinity of the city of Baqubah, in addition to another headquarters for the law enforcement forces, pointing out that “the two projects are the beginning of moving security headquarters outside the so-called “belts.” Crowded residential areas and giving greater flexibility in expanding headquarters to contribute to accommodating the large increase in individuals and machinery.
The source added in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The measure comes within a strategy that will take other dimensions in terms of investing in stability in drawing a map of security deployment, which will lead to a direct reduction in the militarization of cities and transferring the surplus to remote areas to capture it, especially in the axes that pose security challenges." .
While the Superintendent of Security Affairs, Sadiq Abdullah, acknowledged "the importance of moving large headquarters, especially residential belts, to give them greater flexibility in performing their duties, especially since some of the headquarters were built decades ago, with the inability to expand due to the limited lands surrounding them."
Abdullah added in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Building a new headquarters for the police command means reducing the momentum in a large triangle in the center of Baqubah, thus the possibility of revitalizing the main road between Baqubah and Buhriz through the expansion underway now."
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani announced on Wednesday (June 15, 2023) that his government is working to establish special camps for the Popular Mobilization Forces outside the cities, and to develop a law that guarantees its members a dignified retirement.
Al-Sudani said at the time, “The security challenges that Iraq faced previously are now in the past thanks to the vigilance of our security forces,” noting that “the role of the Popular Mobilization Forces formations was not limited to liberating the land, but rather supported the army to preserve the state institutions and political system in Iraq.”
