Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani warned, on Saturday, that the current conflict between Israel and Palestine would extend, threatening energy in global markets. While he expressed Iraq’s position of rejecting emptying the Gaza Strip of its population, he called for the establishment of a fund for support and reconstruction. sector.
This came in a speech he delivered before the 2023 Cairo Peace Summit dedicated to discussing developments in the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Al-Sudani said in his speech that the Palestinian people are being subjected to a process of genocide by targeting civilians in residential complexes, churches and hospitals, indicating that the Baptist Hospital massacre showed the true face of the Zionist occupation and its intentions, which crossed all red lines.
He added, “What is happening is a full-fledged war crime, which began with the killing of defenseless people and the imposition of a stifling siege on what remains of the living,” stressing that “it is difficult to depict in words the terrible acts and massacres that occur daily, and the burial of innocent people under the rubble of their homes on the land of their first displacement.” During the days of the Nakba of 1948.”
Al-Sudani described Gaza as “today a new test for the world order, which has failed several times in implementing the values of humanity, justice and freedom it calls for, and Palestine is a living witness to this failure.”
The Prime Minister also stressed that “the time has come to put an end to this hateful occupation and stop the suffering of the Palestinian people,” stressing that “injustice does not produce sustainable peace, and there is no way to achieve security and end violence except by removing its causes, first and foremost the occupation and policies of racial discrimination.”
He added that the Zionist entity continues to violate laws, including the laws of war, pointing out that this will affect international security and the spread of the conflict regionally, threaten energy supplies to global markets, multiply global economic crises, and open the door to deeper and broader conflicts.
Al-Sudani went on to say that the occupation continues to violate the Third Geneva Convention regarding Prisoners of War, and the Fourth Convention that provides protection for civilians in the occupied territories, noting that the Zionist entity continues to violate the International Covenant on Civil Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and more than 78 Security Council resolutions related to On the Palestinian issue.
He stressed that if international resolutions had been respected, and international bodies had assumed their responsibilities, the Palestinian issue would not have reached these tragic conditions.
Al-Sudani expressed Iraq's position that strongly rejects attempts to empty the Gaza Strip of its people, saying: There is no room to talk about resettlement, or creating refugee camps, and there is no place for the Palestinians except their land.
He stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire, opening border crossings and allowing the entry of humanitarian aid and relief materials, and then working to ensure a safe and comprehensive exchange of prisoners and detainees.
Al-Sudani called for efforts to be made to completely lift the siege on the Gaza Strip to ensure that the tragedy is not repeated, calling for the establishment of a fund to support and rebuild the Strip, and Iraq will not delay in providing any possible assistance.
He added, saying: The dissolution of the Palestinian issue and the attempt to bury it must be stopped, and no one has the right to reconcile, compromise, or donate on behalf of the Palestinian people, as the Palestinians are the owners of the land and the issue.
The Iraqi Prime Minister continued by saying, International legitimacy, along with all free peoples, still calls for a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, not torn apart by settlements, or humiliated by crossings and starvation policies.
Al-Sudani warned that continuing to ignore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people only produces more violence and extremism, and more instability in the region and the world.
