    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Commerce announced the continuation of the campaign to sell foodstuffs at competitive prices, while specifying the prices of the materials within the campaign.
The Director General of the General Company for Foodstuff Trade, Lama Al-Moussawi, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the Ministry of Commerce launched a campaign to serve the citizen and provide him with basic foodstuffs at competitive prices, as well as to limit the greed of price-speculating merchants.”
She pointed out that "the food supplies included in the campaign included milk, table eggs, chicken, paste, and sugar," indicating that "the company works in an integrated manner with the departments of other ministries."
She added, "Campaigns are continuing regarding the local markets and price monitoring, as there is a special team that monitors the markets on a daily basis," noting that "most of the food basket items' prices are stable in the local markets, and if there is an increase, it is considered very slight."
She pointed out that “the campaign launched by the Ministry of Commerce and its marketing of the materials is not for profit, but rather to control prices and create a state of balance,” noting that “the prices of the materials are appropriate, available to everyone, and of high quality, as the price of a quarter kilogram of milk for adults reached one thousand dinars.” A kilo of sugar costs 1,000 dinars, as well as 800 grams of tomato paste for 1,500 dinars, table eggs for 5,000 dinars, and chicken for 3,000.
