Shafaq News/ The Parliamentary Progress Bloc, led by former Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, revealed on Sunday that the file of selecting the Speaker of Parliament had been postponed until after the provincial council elections.

Nihal Al-Shammari, representative of the bloc, told Shafaq News Agency, “There was an agreement between the political parties to postpone the selection of the new Speaker of the House of Representatives until after the provincial council elections, while keeping the same nominated names.”

Al-Shammari added, "The exit of the position from the Taqaddam Party is possible and there is a possibility of that, and this is according to the agreements. Also, the decision to choose the Speaker of Parliament will be closely linked to the results of the provincial council elections, and that is why the decision has been postponed until after the elections."

On Tuesday, November 14, the Federal Supreme Court, “the highest judicial authority in Iraq,” announced the termination of the membership of Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of a lawsuit filed against him by Representative Laith al-Dulaimi, in which he accused him of forging his (Dulaimi’s) resignation from membership in the House of Representatives. As a result, the Federal Court ruled to terminate their membership (Al-Halbousi and Al-Dulaimi).
