Representative Salah Al-Tamimi confirmed today, Thursday (January 11, 2024), that preparing minutes for land distribution under local caretaker governments is an “illegal” procedure.

Al-Tamimi told "Baghdad Today", "The attempt of some governors, who are now within the principle of business administration, to prepare records for the distribution of lands is illegal, and it is a file of corruption that must be paid attention to and strive to stop, pending the formation of the (new) local governments to have the decision to distribute according to the legal contexts."

He added, "The employees in the relevant departments will be held accountable if the procedures for implementing the minutes proceed in accordance with the current contexts and the pressure of some governors, even though they are caretaker," stressing, "This file will inevitably be opened after the formation of the next local governments."

On the 15th of last month, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed the formation of a joint team to review the distribution of land plots during electoral propaganda.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office said, “To prevent the exploitation of political and administrative influence for personal and partisan purposes, the Prime Minister directed the formation of joint teams from the Federal Financial Supervision Office and the Federal Integrity Commission, which will review and audit all procedures related to the allocation, granting, and distribution of residential plots of land in the governorates within a period of time.” Electoral propaganda for governorate councils, in order to achieve the principles of justice, equality, and equal opportunities among competitors, and to enhance integrity, transparency, and the correctness and safety of all procedures, in order to protect public funds.”
