The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council, denouncing the Iranian bombing of Erbil on the 15th of this month, according to a copy of the complaint seen by Baghdad Today.
Baghdad said in the complaint submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, Fouad Hussein, and dated January 16, that is, the day after the Iranian strikes, that the “pretexts” and “allegations” made by Iran to justify these attacks are “fake,” stressing that It is considered a "flagrant violation of sovereignty, territorial integrity and the security of the Iraqi people."
The complaint indicated that “the aggression represents an abuse of the principles of good neighborliness and destabilizes the security of the entire region,” stressing that “the pretexts advanced by Tehran do not justify in any way its bombing with ballistic missiles,” according to the complaint.
She stressed that Iraq reserves the right to demand “the legal and moral rights resulting from these attacks in accordance with international laws and legislation,” and called on the Security Council to ask Iran to “desist such attacks, observe good neighborliness, and respect Iraq’s sovereignty.”
The complaint letter was submitted by the Acting Chargé d'Affairs of the Permanent Mission of Iraq to the United Nations, Abbas Kadhim Obaid, who requested that the letter be distributed to members of the Security Council and issued as a Council document.
On January 15, the Revolutionary Guard announced that it had targeted, with ballistic missiles, what it described as “spying and gathering headquarters for anti-Iranian terrorist groups in the region,” confirming the destruction of “a headquarters for the Zionist Mossad” in the Kurdistan region.
On January 17, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed its strong denunciation and condemnation of the "Iranian aggression" against the city of Erbil, announcing the submission of a complaint to the Security Council.
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that “Iraq has submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council and the United Nations, related to the Iranian missile aggression that targeted the city of Erbil and led to the deaths of innocent civilians, the injury of others, and caused damage to public and private property,” according to what was reported by the Iraqi News Agency, “INA”. ".
She added, "I filed a complaint in accordance with two identical letters to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the UN Security Council through the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Iraq in New York, in which I affirmed that this aggression is a flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of the Iraqi people."
This January, Iraq announced that it had summoned its ambassador to Tehran for consultations against the backdrop of Iranian “aggressions,” while the United States considered the bombing “reckless.”
The authorities of the Iraqi Kurdistan region reported that at least “four civilians” were martyred and six others were injured, including a prominent real estate businessman, Bishraw Dizayi, and his wife.
