    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The researcher in political and security affairs, Muhammad Ali Al-Hakim, commented today, Monday (February 5, 2024), about the possibility of the United States of America continuing to bomb targets inside Iraqi territory during the next stage.
Al-Hakim told “Baghdad Today” that “there is a very high possibility that the United States of America will continue to bomb targets inside Iraqi territory during the next stage,” pointing out that Washington has identified these targets, and we do not believe that it will be satisfied with bombing (85) targets as it announced. ".
He stated that "the Iraqi government's position is not a strong position through which America can be deterred from bombing Iraq, violating its sovereignty, and threatening its security and stability."
Al-Hakim pointed out, “The United States knows very well that Iraq will be satisfied with responding to it through statements of rejection and denunciation that do not provide anything and do not affect the American position.”
The US Army's Central Command reported, early last Saturday morning, that its forces launched air strikes in Iraq and Syria, targeting sites belonging to the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces west of Anbar and faction headquarters in Syria.
The command said in a statement that US military forces struck more than 85 targets with many aircraft including long-range bombers launched from the United States.
According to the statement, the air strikes used more than 125 precision-guided munitions, noting that the targets included command and control headquarters, intelligence centers, and warehouses for missiles, drones, ammunition, and logistical supplies.
US President Joe Biden had directed the military forces to strike targets in Iraq and Syria, stressing that the United States, although it was not seeking escalation in the Middle East, would inevitably respond to those who harmed Americans.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby confirmed on Saturday that the Iraqi government had already been informed before the air attacks were launched.
In turn, Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi denied the existence of prior coordination between Baghdad and Washington regarding the strikes directed by American forces targeting security forces’ positions in Anbar Governorate, west of the country, confirming that there were 16 casualties and 25 wounded as a result of that “aggression.”
On Saturday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the temporary Chargé d'Affairs at the US Embassy in Baghdad, David Berker, to protest the bombing.
