    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The head of the Iraqi Center for Strategic Studies, Ghazi Faisal, warned today, Thursday (July 18, 2024), of the danger of the return of targeting American interests and targets in Iraq.
Faisal said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the return of targeting American interests and targets in Iraq will have serious repercussions on security stability. This targeting will have an American military reaction against the factions and their leaders involved in these attacks. This will escalate the security situation and have repercussions even on political and governmental stability."
He added, "The return of these attacks on the Americans will negatively affect the course of dialogues and negotiations between Baghdad and Washington regarding ending the missions of the international coalition. These operations will also put Al-Sudani and his government in a very embarrassing position before the international community, and this may create internal problems between the government and some of the parties supporting it from the political and armed sides."
It is noteworthy that American interests in Iraq, including "restaurants" and commercial agencies, were subjected last May to a series of attacks, demonstrations, and raids that reached the point of sabotage, especially in the capital, Baghdad, in protest against the United States' support for the Zionist entity in its war against civilians in Gaza.
The Ain al-Assad base in Anbar Governorate and the Harir base in Erbil also witnessed a series of attacks, the last of which was on Tuesday (July 16, 2024), through an attack carried out by two drones that fell on the perimeter of the base that includes American forces in the city of Al-Baghdadi in Anbar.
The attacks on American targets stopped after the armed factions announced a "truce" that they said would last for 40 days and that they gave the government a period to complete negotiations to remove foreign forces represented by the international coalition and American forces from Iraq.
