A seminar in the Iraqi Media Network recommends reducing the risks of environmental pollution

The Iraqi Media Network organized an educational symposium on the relationship between the environment, citizens and the media, with the participation of employees of various state institutions.
Member of the Energy ISO team, head of the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions in the Network, Tariq Abdel Amir, told Al-Sabah: For the fifth time in a row, the Network is organizing an introductory workshop on the risks and causes of environmental pollution and the importance of moving away from fossil fuels and using clean energy.
He added that 265 municipal institutions in various governorates of the country remove 18 million tons of waste annually, divided into 12 million tons of regular waste and 6 other construction wastes, received by 221 sanitary landfill sites spread across various governorates.
He pointed out that the country suffers from environmental problems, most notably garbage dumps, which are a major source of gas emissions that affect human health, in addition to throwing waste and food waste into rivers.
Abdul Amir stressed the need to address the process of environmental imbalance, which includes overgrazing operations, lack of agricultural areas, cutting down trees and forests, overhunting of animals, as well as the use of pesticides, and air pollution through factory and car emissions, as well as urban expansion and encroachment on green spaces through encroachment. Dredging and river pollution, in addition to causes related to changing natural conditions such as drought and lack of rain.
He pointed out the importance of adopting sanitation projects and converting them to irrigate the green belt, in addition to working to manage energy consumption in a regular and effective manner in the governmental, industrial, agricultural and household sectors to contribute to reducing the emission of gases that cause high air temperatures, as well as encouraging and promoting the use of renewable and sustainable energy applications in all sectors. Legislatively and financially.
