The Ministry of Agriculture announced the preparation of a plan to confront water scarcity through investment in desert lands, and while it indicated the existence of major agricultural projects to produce strategic crops, it revealed a trend to support plant and animal production in the desert.
Undersecretary of the Ministry, Mahdi Sahar al-Jubouri, said, “The Ministry has prepared a plan to confront water scarcity, including investing in desert lands that depend on groundwater through modern irrigation techniques.”
Al-Jubouri added, “Many major agricultural projects were established in desert lands to produce strategic crops in addition to planting palm trees and olive trees, as well as summer and winter vegetable crops.”
He pointed out that “agriculture is moving towards supporting plant production, and there are several integrated investment projects for animal production in several areas in desert lands, including fodder crops, in addition to projects for poultry or fattening calves or cows to supply local markets with agricultural products that meet the country’s need.”
