    Baghdad Today - Diyala
An informed source revealed, today, Sunday (November 24, 2024), that the most important people involved in what he called the theft of the century in Diyala have been reached.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The joint investigation team that was formed to look into the file of the disappearance of billions of dinars in one of the departments of the Diyala Governorate Diwan, the features of which were revealed by the former acting governor, Ali Karim Agha, in a press conference last April, reached the most important people involved after months of tracking."
He added that "the results of the investigations cannot be revealed, but the arrest of the most important names involved will constitute a transition in understanding the course of what happened and the fate of the billions of dinars whose fate is still unknown," stressing that "the file has not been closed yet and the recent developments have given further impetus to continue uncovering the mysteries of a case that stirred public opinion in Diyala after it was called the theft of the century."
He pointed out that "revealing the results of the investigations throughout the months remains a decision for Baghdad and Diyala together, but in general it can be said that the investigations have reached advanced stages."
An informed source revealed on Friday (July 12, 2024) the completion of the results of what he called the theft of the century in Diyala, while noting that there was a cover-up of the investigation results.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The theft of billions of dinars by some employees in Diyala, which was discovered last April, has reached important results and is currently complete, but it cannot be revealed to the public opinion at the present time and is awaiting a green light from higher authorities in Baghdad."
He added, "There are three reasons behind the delay in announcing the final results, the most prominent of which are the complications in the embezzlement and theft operations, the effort to recover the money as much as possible, and the pursuit of the accused, stressing that the general situation in Diyala also contributed to the delay in the announcement."
The source pointed out that "the results of the investigations are currently being kept secret and may be announced after the formation of the Diyala government or may take a longer period, indicating that the picture regarding the circumstances of the theft of the century has become clear and the identity of those involved in it has been determined."
The acting governor of Diyala, Karim Ali Agha, explained in a press conference last April that “the amounts stolen in the embezzlement operation in the province amounted to 7 billion and 394 million dinars,” stressing that “any reports promoting numbers different from these numbers are inaccurate.”
He explained that "those involved in the theft were employees in the accounts, and the operation began with the withdrawal of amounts in 2019, and they were arrested weeks ago" at the time, noting that "arrest warrants were issued against all those involved."
"We opened an investigation and were able to reach the real criminals, and two of them were arrested out of five involved," Agha added, explaining that "the number of those involved and the stolen amounts may increase as the investigations progress."
