Government spokesman: Completing 1,000 schools in 2024

Government media spokesman Haider Majeed revealed high completion rates in the model school buildings project within the Chinese agreement, indicating that the current year 2024 will witness the completion and delivery of the “first phase” of the project, amounting to 1,000 school buildings in all cities of the country, stressing that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani He personally follows up on the progress of achievement in the vital project. He also directed the concerned authorities to remove all obstacles and obstacles facing Project No. (1) for school buildings, which have contributed to delaying it over the past ten years.
Majeed said, in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “The model school buildings project received the attention of the Prime Minister and direct follow-up by the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, given that the Department of National Projects and School Buildings affiliated with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers is concerned with completing this project within the agreement.” Chinese,” and pointed out that “the first phase (1,000) schools were distributed among the governorates according to the standards of the Supreme Committee for School Construction, and this project is directed to ending the phenomenon of double and triple shifts, as well as ending the phenomenon of caravan and mud schools.”
He stated that "the project is progressing at a high pace and with close follow-up by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers through its technical and engineering teams by conducting daily field visits, and many of the sites are operating with two or three working shifts according to the latest government directives."
He explained that "five schools were officially opened in Iraq, and the first school was opened by the Prime Minister in the city of Nasiriyah, in addition to two schools in Basra, and the same in Maysan was opened by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers."
He stressed that “the completion rates are going according to plan, and as of the current month of March there are 124 schools that have been fully completed and ready for delivery, and at the end of next April there will be another 120 schools ready,” explaining that “according to the plan of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Department of National Projects and School Buildings, during By November of the current year, 2024, all sites of the first phase will be completed at (1,000) schools.”
The spokesman noted “the formation of a committee from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Construction and Housing - as the advisory body supervising the designs - in coordination with the education directorates in the governorates to hand over the schools from the two Chinese implementing companies,” and indicated that “this committee will work to hand over the schools and look into everything.” Its rationale and details must be in accordance with the technical and engineering designs and specifications signed in a contract, and after they are received, there will be an official opening and it will be delivered to the education departments in the governorates.”
Majeed pointed out that “the Ministry of Education - and in parallel with this project as well - has many projects. There is Project No. (1) which is stalling, and there are continuous follow-ups to its completion, and two days ago there was a meeting by the Prime Minister regarding this project, which has reached advanced stages.” He explained, “There were many stalled sites, but the government directives and the determination of the Ministry of Education and all the sectors that received this file worked to rehabilitate hundreds of schools, and there is a government vision for the Ministry of Education to contract with the (Iraqi Development Fund) to build 1,000 schools, as well as another proposed approach to contracting.” The Ministry of Education is working with the National Investment Authority to establish another 1,000 schools, in addition to another plan, which is the development of the regions, as the governorates are also working on this important file.”
In addition, the spokesman for the Ministry of Education, Karim Al-Sayed, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “The Ministry’s Project No. (1) is one of the projects that has been stalling for more than a decade, and the delay in completing the project caused great damage to the infrastructure of the Ministry of Education and school buildings.” particulary".
He pointed out that "the current government, including the Ministry of Education, revived this project and reviewed all the reasons and matters in order to start again by correcting the deviation that occurred and then allocating the necessary funds to complete it, and then meeting with the implementing companies in order for them to complete this project, which provides quite a few schools." It consists of 1,751 buildings.
He explained, "The meeting held last Thursday, chaired by the Prime Minister and in the presence of all concerned parties, was an important step in order to correct the situation with this important project."
