    The Ministry of Transport has begun implementing a plan to develop the port sector and provide job opportunities for young people using modern technology to transform it global and make it on the level of smart ports, while the ports are preparing for the transit of new (transit) shipments coming from China towards Europe and vice versa, due to the turbulent security situation in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. 
    Director of the Ministry's Media Office, Maytham Al-Safi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that the Iraqi ports are witnessing development, expansion, and the establishment of a large industrial complex that includes more than 20 food factories, which will be opened during the next few months, in addition to the completion of the implementation steps. The project to transform Al-Maqal Port into a tourist and residential resort, 
    Pointing at the same time to the immediate implementation of a plan to develop the port sector and provide job opportunities for young people using modern technology to transform it towards globalization and make it on the level of smart ports, indicating that among the projects that will be implemented this year is the project to dock marine vessels in Umm Qasr and the construction of a transfer station for the northern ports of Umm Qasr. and Khor Al-Zubair, at a cost of 12 billion dinars.
    He added that after the successful crossing of the first shipment (transit) through the northern port of Umm Qasr coming from China to Jordan, against the backdrop of the security disturbances that affected the navigation movement in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the ports are preparing to receive new shipments coming from China towards Europe and from the latter towards countries. Gulf, which is considered an expansion of the work of Iraqi ports and requires the adoption of rapid steps in container handling operations and the provision of facilities for the success of the (transit) process from Iraq to neighboring countries.
