    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday (April 24, 2024), the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee announced its position on the Iraqi government signing a number of memorandums of understanding with the Turkish side during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while indicating that those responsible for this file will be hosted for scrutiny.
Committee member Mukhtar al-Musawi told “Baghdad Today” that “the memorandums of understanding that were signed between Iraq and Turkey are not only related to the water file, but rather are different memorandums related to all economic, security, investment and other levels, and they were not imposed on Iraq, but rather they came in accordance with interests.” Common and mutual between the two countries.
Al-Moussawi stated, "The entities and personalities responsible for these memorandums will be hosted to know all their precise details for the purpose of reviewing, scrutinizing and studying them well. We will also scrutinize the strategic agreement that was signed between Baghdad and Ankara, as we have not yet seen its precise details and the provisions it contains."
On Tuesday (April 23, 2024), member of the coordination framework, MP Hussein Mardan, outlined the positives of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit in 5 main points.
Mardan said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The visit of Turkish President Erdogan to Baghdad, last Monday, brought positive points in 5 points through a direct presentation of the outstanding files between Ankara and Baghdad, the most prominent of which is the water file, especially since 60% of the workforce depends mainly on the activity of... The agricultural sector has been affected in the past two years due to Ankara’s failure to commit to fair releases from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in addition to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party file and its repercussions, the presence in some areas and the entry of Turkish forces up to 60 km away. This matter is sensitive and affects national sovereignty in addition to the commercial and economic dimensions.”
Mardan added, "The positives of the visit are that it discussed and concluded protocols in order to proceed with practical solutions that dispel Baghdad's concerns, with belief in the importance of building economic partnership relations that take into account common interests if it is known that the Iraqi government and parliament are on paths to zeroing out problems with Ankara and the rest of the countries and relying on partnership." Economics in building relationships.
He pointed out that "Iraq depends on the interests of its people in its foreign policy and believes that it will not cause any harm to any of its neighboring countries, whether Iran or others, because achieving stability and building development and economic projects, including the path to development, will move the entire region to a different situation in terms of economic activity," ruling out that " There are intersections of economic and security interests within a region that has suffered from crises for decades, and the time has come to resolve them according to a formula that is fair to all parties.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received, last Monday, the President of the Turkish Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is visiting Iraq at the head of a high-level official delegation.
Al-Sudani and Erdogan held official bilateral discussions, as well as expanded discussions at the government and ministerial levels on both sides, to discuss water, economic and security files, the development road project and developments in the situation in the region, where a bilateral strategic framework agreement was signed aimed at expanding the partnership in the economic and trade fields, and exchanging experiences.
