The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources announced, on Monday, Iraq's intention to hold an imminent meeting with Turkey and Syria to agree on water quotas within the common rivers, noting the improvement in the rate of releases to secure the need for drinking and agriculture and to push the salt tongue in the Shatt al-Arab.
The official spokesman of the ministry and director of the General Authority for Survey, Ali Radi, said in a statement to NRT Arabia (August 9, 2021), that "a tripartite meeting will be held soon between the three countries, in order to set agreements and understandings that guarantee fair water releases for Iraq within the common rivers."
Radi added, "The technical delegation of the ministry had visited Turkey and discussed several files and axes in the water file, and among the priorities of the discussions were water releases in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and ensuring the country's water rights, in addition to the joint protocol between Iraq and Turkey for water releases to the Tigris River and ensuring a monthly share of water releases from the Tigris River." those shots."
He explained, "The most important axis of the delegation's visit was to share the damage during periods of water scarcity, and to see some Turkish installations, the most important of which is the Ilisu Dam," noting that "the ministry had held previous meetings with the Syrian side via an electronic circuit."
