Shafaq News/ A source in the North Oil Company in Kirkuk Governorate reported on Friday that the Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani arrived at the company's headquarters and discussed with its general manager a number of topics, including the contract of the British company "BP" to develop oil fields in the governorate and the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline.
The source explained to Shafaq News Agency, "The Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, accompanied by a number of officials from the Ministry, arrived at the headquarters of the North Oil Company on an unannounced visit. The delegation was received by the Director General of the North Oil Company, Burkan Hassan Abdullah, and the Minister conducted an inspection tour of the company's departments."
He added, "The Minister of Oil held a meeting with the Director General of the North Oil Company and a number of his assistants and engineers from the company's departments, and discussed with them the levels of oil production in general with the company and the mechanisms for increasing the overall production of the North Oil Company, which has resources capable of increasing its oil production."
The source also indicated that "the Minister of Oil requested from the company's management a comprehensive map of crude oil production in the Kirkuk fields and the Hafna, Jambur, and Khabaza oil fields, and a detailed report on production levels in each field for the purpose of working on developing these fields, in conjunction with concluding the contract with the British company (BP)."
The source confirmed that "the Iraqi Minister of Oil asked the company to work accurately with the British company for the purpose of implementing the terms of the contract signed with it yesterday, Thursday, in order to develop the oil fields, and increase the company's overall production, as well as prepare a plan for the unexploited oil wells developed by the company for the purpose of developing them by North Oil and the British company (BP)."
The source added that "the management of the North Oil Company gave a complete picture of the general production situation in the company, the completion of the repair work of the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline, and the start of the experimental pumping of the pipeline, which was tested with complete success, and is ready to transport crude oil from the Kirkuk fields to the Turkish port of Ceyhan."
Yesterday, Thursday, a comprehensive petroleum memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Oil and the British Petroleum Company (BP) to develop Kirkuk fields for oil and gas production.
According to a statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the latter sponsored the ceremony, and the Iraqi side was signed by Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani, while the CEO of BP, Murray Auchincloss, signed on behalf of the company.
The statement indicated that the memorandum includes the rehabilitation and development of the four fields of the North Oil Company in Kirkuk, which are the Kirkuk field with its two domes (Baba and Avana), the Bai Hassan field, the Jambur field and the Khabbaz field.
According to the statement, the memorandum also included the possibility of agreeing on other fields or exploration areas, with the agreement of both parties, in light of the government’s efforts to optimally invest in promising opportunities in the energy sector, with the aim of increasing and enhancing oil production, gas investments and solar energy in this region.
