Iraq looks forward to a new phase after Trump's victory

The most prominent global event yesterday, Wednesday, was the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential elections. This victory, despite the events that occurred during his previous presidential term, hopes are high to end the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, as he pledged in his victory speech to his supporters.
Immediately after the results were announced, Iraq congratulated the US President-elect, as President of the Republic Abdul Latif Rashid said in a tweet on his account on the (X) website: "I congratulate President Donald Trump on his victory in the presidential elections. We wish him and his administration success in leading the United States towards further progress and prosperity." He added, "We also look forward to a new phase filled with hope for achieving peace and stability in the region and strengthening constructive relations that serve the interests and aspirations of peoples."
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani also congratulated Trump, saying in a tweet on the (X) platform: “We congratulate President-elect Donald Trump, his Vice President James David Vance, and the American people on the success of the electoral process.” Al-Sudani stressed “Iraq’s firm commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the United States on the basis of mutual respect and common interests.”
He added, “We look forward to this new phase being the beginning of deepening cooperation between our two countries in various fields, which contributes to achieving sustainable development and benefits the two friendly peoples.”
Trump was able to obtain (277) votes from the Electoral College, exceeding the threshold of (292) required to win, while the votes of his losing Democratic competitor Kamala Harris reached (224) votes. Trump said after announcing his victory: “I will not start wars, but I will end them.”
