Crocker calls for a US meeting "at the highest level" to prevent the "edge of the abyss"

    Former
US Ambassador wrote to Baghdad Ryan Crocker said that Iraq is now on
the precipice, calling on Iraqis to show restraint and abide by their
commitment to non-violence, with the request of the United States led a
sustained diplomatic effort to defuse the crisis.

    The Crocker,
who was Ambassador to Iraq from 2007 to 2009, in a commentary entitled
"Iraq on edge again," published in the Washington Post yesterday, that
"the situation in Iraq turn serious u-turn. The events in recent days
filled with such as those that led to civil war in 2006 and resulted in
the need to increase US troops levels, new impetus strategy and fierce
    fighting. "
"In fact, places where violence broke out our
strangely known, so that many of them were strongholds of Al-Qaeda in
Iraq at the time of commencement of strtiget momentum, before the
Awakening movement spread further reconciliation between the disaffected
Sunni Arabs and the Shiite-led Government in Baghdad."

    "Following
the latest incidents come on top of mounting attacks by Al-Qaeda in
Iraq, however, shocking, and implemented against the backdrop of
    increasing political controversy.
    These developments clearly
require the attention and support of the international community, led by
the United Nations. " The former US Ambassador to "progress towards
political reconciliation and pluralistic came first in 2007 and 2008,
when security prevails, where Shia and Sunni opted to resolve their
differences through consensus rather than violence. And survivors of
this commitment even in difficult time that followed parliamentary
    elections in 2010. "

Even the arrest of Vice President Tariq
al-Hashimi protections and the death sentence against him. "The Iraqi
security forces and protesters have seized significant adjustments.
themselves Sunni leaders have taken concrete steps to preserve the
peaceful demonstrations. Even after killing eight protesters in Fallujah
last January, the two sides managed to curb the escalation. "
    "All
of this has changed in the past week. If it started from Hawija, where
many protesters were killed. Crocker believes that this situation
"involving the most serious matters to the security and stability of
Iraq. Al Qaeda in Iraq had already started to rebuild itself in areas
that were Iraqi and US forces have cleared and made them dearly over the
past five years. The US diplomat said: "these developments threaten to
undermine the gains made since 2007, but also threaten to activate
strong violent extremism at the heart of the Arab world, which burned in
    Syria."

He stressed that "Iraq's leaders need to curb the
escalation of the crisis and address the concerns of those who have been
affected. In particular, there is a dark new postponement of provincial
elections in Anbar and Nineveh, and should be addressed quickly. What
exacerbates the sense of marginalization. Here we must move forward with
    elections and as planned. "

Crocker said that "protests are not
about postponement of the polls. The protesters also demanded
substantial reforms on policies and how they are implemented by the
de-Baathification laws. We have noted that Prime Minister Nouri
al-Maliki made concessions regarding the latter issue, we look forward
to the support of other political parties within the component.

    The
US Ambassador said that "it is imperative that the friends of Iraq in
support of this effort. Progress in Iraq achieved when coalition parties
worked to encourage Sunni communities to work with the Government,
which still did not trust them.

On this basis, it is good to
read in the past few days on the activities of the US Ambassador to
Baghdad and the United Nations Mission in Iraq, and they are calling for
calm, and all parties involved and reminded them of what they can lose:
lose the new Iraq had paid them and us so much to be done ".

    And
felt that "Although the United States withdrew its troops from Iraq,
but still considerable weight. Iraqi security forces are equipped and
trained Americans, leaders of the country need our help and they expect
of us. And have shown us great initiative when John Kerry to make Iraq
part of his first foreign trip since he took office; it returns to
indicate the importance of long-term Iraq for the United States and
regional stability, and it should involve all Iraqi leaders. "

    "A
further step might be to call a meeting at the level of the Secretariat
of the Joint Committee established under the strategic framework
agreement." Former US Ambassador concluded "the Iraqis back down from
the brink, and the United States must lead a sustained effort at the
highest level. We have done this with great success, and we have to do
the same thing now. The stakes for Iraq and the region is very high so
    that everything is less important.
