TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Baghdad has not found any military equipment on Syria-bound Iranian flights crossing through the country’s airspace.

Zebari said that Iraq has been conducting random checks on Iranian planes bound for Syria since September.
The Iraqi foreign minister added that these checks had only found “non-lethal aid like medicines and food”, press tv reported.

Under pressure from the US, Iraq has searched several Syria-bound Iranian planes.

In April, Baghdad checked Iranian aircrafts for three consecutive days. The searches, however, found nothing but humanitarian aid and commercial goods.

In October 2012, Iraq forced a Damascus-bound Iran Air cargo plane from Tehran to land and searched it for weapons, but allowed it to continue as no prohibited items were found on board.

“We did not see anything contrary to the instructions banning the transport of weapons between the Syrian and Iranian sides, so we therefore allowed it to continue its trip,” said Nasser Bandar, the head of Iraq's civil aviation authority.

The foreign-sponsored militancy in Syria has taken its toll on the lives of many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel, since March 2011.

Western powers and their regional allies including the Israeli regime, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are supporting the anti-Syria militant groups, including al-Qaeda-linked terrorists, to overthrow the Syrian government.

Meanwhile, several international human rights organizations say the militants operating in Syria have committed war crimes.

Iraq Finds No Weapons on Iran-Syria Flights Empty Maliki's coalition: Iranian aircraft are weapon-free

Shafaq News / State of Law coalition led by Prime Minister , Nuri al-Maliki expected on Sunday, that there is a defect in the statement quoted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs , Hoshyar Zebarion the Iranian aircraft inspection heading to Syria, and that Iraq will not be able to stop the transfer of weapons to Damascus.

Zebari talked yesterday in the context of an interview briefed by “Shafaq News” that “he informed the Westerners that Iraq is unable to stop the transfer of weapons from Tehran to Damascus if this process exists”.

“Zebari said that Iraq is unable to prevent Iran from entering its airspace because it requires international resolutions,” The MP said the coalition, Ali al-Shalah told “Shafaq News”.

He explained that Zebari’s statement does not mean that Iraq needs help or foreign intervention.

“The statement is not intended that there are weapons passing already through Iraq , as Iranian aircrafts have been inspected and we did not find weapons, but I think that something went wrong in the statement published by the newspaper, as he meant that Iraq is unable to prevent Iran if wanted to transfer weapons to Syria ,” al-Shalah added.

The U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry had said earlier, that the Iraqi airspace contributes to the survival of President, Bashar al-Assad regime in power, noting to reporters that he had urged Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki to inspect Iranian planes coming to Syria through Iraqi airspace.

It is worthy to say that the adviser to Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki, Ali al-Moussawi said at the end of last March, that Iraq will tighten inspections of flights from Iran heading to Syria, noting in a statement reported for “Shafaq News” at the time, that “as a result of information we received from the passage of heavily loaded aircraft to Syria, we have decided to increase inspections”.
