The Saudi newspaper Al-Akhbar reported on Saturday that Saudi Arabia had prevented the adoption of a Lebanese ambassador in Kuwait because of its membership in the Shiite community.

"Saudi Arabia has pressured Kuwait not to accept the adoption of the Lebanese ambassador by Ryan Saeed, which was covered by the diplomatic formations approved by the Lebanese government on July 20," the newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying. "Said's affiliation with the Shiite community."

"This coincided with the ruling of the Abdali cell, which the Kuwaiti authorities accuse of being linked to Hezbollah and Iran, and sending Kuwait a message describing the actions of Hezbollah as a threat to Kuwait's security and stability.

"This prompted the Lebanese Foreign Ministry to freeze the file of Said, on the pretext of avoiding embarrassment if Kuwait refused to adopt the ambassador after sending his credentials."

The newspaper pointed out that "things reached the extent of the intervention of President Michel Aoun, by planning to organize an official visit to Kuwait and meet with the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, but the latter's trip to the United States and Aoun's visit to Paris and New York prevented the Lebanese-Kuwaiti meeting during September".
