The Legal Committee calls for the selection of independent candidates for the Electoral Commission

     Baghdad / Range

The parliamentary legal committee called yesterday for strict selection of members of the new electoral commission, calling for the adoption of professionalism, independence and avoiding party candidates.
And warned that the failure to choose independent candidates for the Electoral Commission will lead to chaos.
On 21 August, the Presidency of the House of Representatives postponed the presentation of the names of the nine candidates of the Electoral Commission to another notice. The decision came against the backdrop of verbal quarrels between Speaker of Parliament Salim al-Jubouri and some MPs.
Al-Mada has obtained the names of candidates for the new council of the Commission, namely: Riyad Ghazi, Mu'tamad Na'ama and Hassan Salman as candidates for the State of Law Coalition, in addition to Ahmed Jabbar as a candidate for the Supreme Council and Karim al-Tamimi as a candidate for the Liberal bloc. The list included Rizgar Hamma as a candidate for the PUK bloc, Bayar Tahir Duski as a candidate for the Kurdistan Democratic Bloc, Ghassan Farhan and Maan Abdul Marshain from the Iraqi Union of Forces. The list also includes a candidate for the Christian component (Aram), and a candidate for the Turkmen component is (Matin Gadrji).
MP Sadik al-Labban, in a statement to his office received (copy) a copy of it, "The pillar of the democratic process of the Electoral Commission and gain the confidence of the Iraqi street in the transparency of its work and professionalism, so we call on all political blocs to emphasize the selection of members of the Commission on the basis of professionalism and independence work and away based on Party basis ".
Al-Laban said that "the selection of members of the Commission on the basis of far from professionalism and independence will be a knock on the credibility of the work of the Commission and the easiest way to question its outputs and the replacement of the destruction of the future of their existence, and may lead to the pretext to reject the elections and enter into chaos that divided the back of democracy and a door to foreign interventions lurking to drop the current experiment "He said.
The member of the Legal Committee, "I call on all parties and political blocs to be accurate and to give priority to public interest and gain the confidence of the street, which is expected from them a lot of sacrifices," noting that "the political blocs agreed earlier that the number of the Board of Commissioners 11 instead of 9, Two seats dedicated to the Christian and Turkmen components. "
Al-Labban pointed out that "the Speaker of the House of Representatives Salim al-Jubouri confirmed earlier that the work of the Electoral Commission ends in September and must form a new commission."
