Zarif accused Washington of forming a "working group" to topple the Iranian authority
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the United States of being behind the military coup that overthrew Mohammad Mossadegh's national government in 1953 in Iran.
"65 years ago, the United States overthrew the elected government of Dr. Mohamed Mossadegh, to restore dictatorship and enslave the Iranians for another 25 years," Zarif wrote on Twitter.
"Now the working group is dreaming of doing the same thing through pressure, deception and demagoguery, and we will never allow it," Zarif said.
The US State Department last Thursday decided to form a working group on Iran, and Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo announced the appointment of Brian Hawk as his special representative on Iranian affairs.
