The search teams for the victims of California's worst fire in history have been able to comb debris after the rain stopped on Saturday, but officials warned the rains could fall again and threaten landslides.
The fire at Camp Fire was almost completely obliterated in the mountain town of Paradise, 280 km northeast of San Francisco, on Nov. 8, killing at least 85 people, destroying about 14,000 homes, Saturday evening.
Some 475 residents and surrounding areas are still missing, the office said.
Hundreds of police and volunteers have been searching the town and around it since the fire broke out.
About five to eight centimeters of rain in the last few days, ashes to mud, searching for the remains of the victims turned into burning bones.
Cory Hounia, chief of Peut County County Police, warned that the remains of some of the victims may not be found at all.
Office spokeswoman Miranda Bowersox said the search teams resumed their efforts on Saturday.
David Roth of the Federal Meteorological Center said five to eight centimeters of rain was expected to hit the fire zone from Wednesday to Saturday.
