{Baghdad: Al-Furat News} The Ministry of Industry and Minerals revealed that the government prevented the import of several consumer goods for their domestic availability and the possibility of manufacturing them inside the country.
The ministry confirmed the issuance of all laws and legislation to protect and prevent the import of juices, refreshments, mineral water and beverages of all kinds.
"The Ministry of Industry and Minerals has been proactive in extrapolating the market and trade movement and identifying the manufactured materials inside Iraq, which can be fully covered by the local need," said Alaa Musa Ali, Director General of the Industrial Development and Organization Department at the Ministry of Industry and Minerals. Measures have been taken to recommend a number of food products, including juices, beverages, soft drinks, bottled water and beverages of all kinds. "
He pointed out that "the decision of the Council of Ministers to protect these products at the end of 2017 and decided the Council of Ministers and through the Committee on Economic Affairs to form a committee called the Committee Order Diwani No. 14 to consider the prevention of the import of materials covering the production of the full domestic need and issued its first decisions in September of 2018 ban Import of juices, refreshments, bottled water and bottled water. The decision was implemented 45 days after it was issued in November of the same year. "
He attributed "the continued entry of these products from outside Iraq to operational problems that allow border crossings to smuggle these materials despite the ban on their import by a decision of the Economic Affairs Committee and approved by the Council of Ministers and pointed out that the House of Representatives has initiated within the federal budget law for 2019 under Article No. 60 First: Preventing the importation of products from the food industry, beverages, juices, dates, fruits and vegetables, which have a similar domestic product that covers the needs of the local market, so that the federal government has taken all legislative measures related to the protection of these products.
He stressed that "the Ministry of Industry and Minerals carried out all its duties by submitting recommendations to the Council of Ministers to protect domestic producers and manufacturers of these materials and was proactive in taking all measures related to the protection of these products, especially that all the possibilities and technological means available within the country to produce and meet the local need and export the surplus out of Country ".
He pointed out that "Iraq has about 1000 plants to produce such materials," calling at the same time, "all parties involved in cooperation to implement the decisions, especially the Kurdistan region and provincial councils."
