The Presidency of the Republic on Monday sent a draft law against domestic violence to the House of Representatives to proceed with legislation.
"The bill, which was sent to the House of Representatives on September 15, 2019, aims to protect the family, especially women and girls, from all forms of GBV, and to prevent and prevent its spread," a presidential statement said. , Punish the perpetrators, compensate for the damage caused, provide protection for the victims, provide them with the necessary care and rehabilitation, and achieve family reconciliation. "
He added: "The draft provided for the formation of a higher committee by the Council of Ministers called (the Supreme Committee against Domestic Violence), headed by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs."
He continued: "It also included the formation of a department called (Directorate of Family Protection) in the Ministry of Interior to carry out the tasks stipulated in this law, headed by an employee with the rank of director general, and has experience in the field of family affairs for a minimum of five years, as well as the formation of a competent court by Supreme Judicial Council, or more in appellate areas to investigate cases of domestic violence. "
The project committed the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to open safe centers for victims of domestic violence in Baghdad and all governorates, to protect and rehabilitate them, taking into account the special needs of people with disabilities, and specialized NGOs have the right to open and manage safe centers with the approval of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Interior Issuing the protection decision as a matter of urgency during the case to deal with the necessary cases.
