    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The media office of the Ministry of Transport denied the rumors about a maritime ban on Iraq by the International Maritime Organization, stressing that no decision had been issued in this regard.[/rtl]

[rtl]The Ministry's media office explained that "preventing the entry of ships or vessels to any country is an exceptional measure, and is linked to cases of war only, and is completely far from the current situation in Iraq, which is considered a safe and stable country."[/rtl]

[rtl]He added that "a delegation from the ministry, accompanied by the Minister of Transport, visited the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization in London, which is the sponsoring body for the maritime sector worldwide, as it is one of the organizations affiliated with the United Nations," indicating that "the aim of the visit was to review the readiness of the Iraqi naval formations before the organization."[/rtl]

[rtl]The office stressed that "Iraq seeks, through this visit, to prove its ability to fully comply with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization and communicate effectively with the outside world."[/rtl]

[rtl]He pointed out that “the Iraqi delegation met with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, where an invitation was extended to the organization to conduct a periodic inspection in November of next year, with the aim of enhancing joint cooperation,” noting that “it was agreed to organize a number of workshops for Iraqi cadres in order to contribute to the development of maritime work in Iraq.”[/rtl]

[rtl]He stated that “since the establishment of the Iraqi Maritime Authority and the appointment of qualified cadres to manage this important facility, Iraq has witnessed an improvement in communication with the international maritime sector,” stressing that “the ministry seeks to strengthen Iraq’s position within the International Maritime Organization, by announcing full compliance with international maritime agreements.”[/rtl]

[rtl]The ministry also explained that “it has a main goal that it seeks to achieve during the coming year, which is to pass the inspection that will be conducted by the International Maritime Organization regarding the extent of Iraq’s commitment to the five basic agreements on maritime work.”[/rtl]

[rtl]She called for “correcting misconceptions about the existence of a blacklist in the organization,” stressing that “this concept is baseless.”[/rtl]
[rtl]The ministry pointed out that “all countries have the right to raise their flag and practice their maritime activity, and that the difference lies in the extent of compliance with maritime work requirements.”[/rtl]

[rtl]She stressed that "Iraq has achieved great progress in this field, as it has reached full compliance with the requirements of the training and qualification agreement for workers in the sector."[/rtl]
    [rtl]"The mariner".[/rtl]

[rtl]The ministry stated that “the Iraqi Ports Institute will soon become a maritime academy in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, and the academy will issue specialized maritime certificates that comply with international agreements,” noting that “the Maritime Authority is committed to meeting the requirements of the Arabian Gulf Academy for Maritime Studies to fully implement the agreements.”[/rtl]

[rtl]The ministry “criticized some voices that promote false information about the Iraqi maritime sector,” noting that “these parties lack the necessary knowledge of international maritime agreements.”[/rtl]

[rtl]The ministry revealed that “the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization will visit Iraq at the beginning of next year to follow up on developments related to the maritime transport sector.”[/rtl]
[rtl]On September 9, Zahra Al-Bajari, a member of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee, warned against the continuation of the naval blockade on Iraq, indicating that this could have an impact on major projects.[/rtl]

[rtl]Al-Bujari said in an interview with Al-Sabah newspaper that the failure to fully implement the requirements and standards of the International Maritime Organization, especially in the inspection, registration, safety and rescue departments, as well as how to deal with and remove marine pollutants, will contribute to the continuation of the international maritime ban and the failure to raise the Iraqi flag on Iraqi ships and vessels, noting that the maritime ban will greatly affect the Grand Faw Port and classify it among the unsafe ports.[/rtl]
[rtl]On September 25, a member of the Parliamentary Transport Committee, Zuhair Al-Fatlawi, warned of the danger of the continuation of the international maritime embargo on Iraq, stressing that failure to meet the requirements and standards imposed by the International Maritime Organization in the areas of inspection, registration, safety and rescue, in addition to dealing with marine pollutants, constitutes a major obstacle to lifting the embargo.[/rtl]
