- At least eight Iraqis were shot dead in Baghdad on Saturday during demonstrations for the fifth consecutive day in the Iraqi capital and southern cities that have resulted in the deaths of about 100 people, while authorities continued to block the Internet as part of its efforts to clamp down on bloody protests.
Hours after the lifting of the curfew in the capital, dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the headquarters of the Oil Ministry in Baghdad, where they were shot at by live ammunition.
The security forces, which responded to the demonstrators, dispersed them into small groups before carrying out house-to-house raids in search of wanted men.
