Shafaq News / Kurdistan Democratic Parliamentary Bloc stated on Tuesday that the Presidency of the Council of Representatives will present the proposals of the political forces regarding the nature of the electoral districts to vote in the session next week.

MP of the bloc, Diyar Berwari, told Shafaq News agency, "the political forces, especially the Shiites, passed the election law on the basis of multiple electoral districts. However, there was no agreement on the nature and number of electoral districts".

He added, "the issue of electoral districts is technically complex, beside the lack of a population census in Iraq", noting that, "the political forces wish to rely on the electoral districts and their number according to their own interests".

Berwari said, "The Presidency of the Council of Representatives will present the proposals of the political forces for voting in the next week’s session", indicating, "the most prominent proposal is to divide the electoral governorate into three or five electoral districts according to the governorate’s population percentage".

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, demanded earlier today, Tuesday, all the political forces and the legal committee to make efforts to establish the electoral districts, calling all representatives of the governorates to agree on a final formula that meets the requirements of the people and reflects the reality. Al-Halbousi dedicated next Saturday's session to finalize the vote and complete the election law.

The Iraqi Council of Representatives passed part of a new election law late last year under unprecedented pressure from popular protests.

However, the differences prevented completing the legislation of the law, as the disagreements revolved around the adoption of single or districts in each governorate, as well as the method of voting, directly or through lists.
