    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, MP Arif Al-Hamami, confirmed today, Monday (June 3, 2024), the presence of dozens of “important laws” in the House of Representatives that cannot be passed without political consensus prior to the sessions .
Al-Hamami said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Proceeding with the enactment of laws and voting on them is extremely important, in order to resolve the construction of legal paths for ministries and agencies, guarantee the rights of broad segments, and give a strong impetus to the principle of law by clarifying powers."
He added, "Dozens of laws are waiting to be voted on in the House of Representatives, most notably oil and gas and general amnesty, and they cannot be passed without political consensus prior to the sessions."
He pointed out that "the next legislative term will witness the introduction of 2-4 important laws, in order to proceed with voting on them, especially since the atmosphere is suitable for a political consensus that pushes the laws to the first and second reading and then voting."
According to observers, the Iraqi Parliament, in its current session, and the last three sessions, is facing accusations of repeated negligence in completing voting on dozens of important laws that affect the lives of citizens.
Among these laws are those related to important economic files, the distribution of wealth, and freedom of expression of opinion, by transferring these laws to later sessions, for reasons that can be summarized as disagreements between parties on the one hand, and the repeated absences of representatives, in addition to the fact that some of these laws are not consistent with the interests of political parties and parties.
