Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: On Monday, the head of the Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, revealed new details regarding the “theft of the century,” confirming the recovery of one of the accused figures from Belarus.
Judge Hanoun said during the Regional Forum for Integrity and Partnership in Combating Corruption, in the presence of 12 Arab countries, that Iraq is continuing to follow up and take procedures to recover those wanted in the tax deposits case, noting that “the Commission has recovered one of the accused figures from Belarus.”
Hanoun explained that “two fugitive individuals are currently being pursued in one of the countries, one of whom is accused of stealing 2,650 billion dinars and the other of stealing 500 billion dinars.”
The last announced figure for the funds recovered from the theft of tax deposits amounted to 400 billion dinars, a number that represents only 10% of the stolen amount of 3.5 trillion dinars, in the case of the theft of tax deposits, or what is known as the theft of the century, which extended between 2021 and 2022.
