The Ministry of Electricity announced, on Tuesday, that its energy production currently stands at 19,000 megawatts, and that it is seeking to connect it to 22,000 megawatts before the next summer season, revealing the intensification of cooperation with the Ministry of Oil to establish joint projects that contribute to the improvement and stability of electric power production.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Al-Abadi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah newspaper, which was followed by Al-Iktissad News, that “the ministry, despite the limited financial allocations and the failure to approve the federal budget, managed to reach production to 19 thousand megawatts by intensifying efforts to complete rehabilitation work on A number of generating units, and the completion of a number of projects that contribute to increasing the reliability of the electrical network.
He added, "The ministry is seeking to achieve its goal and reach the production capacity to 22 thousand megawatts before the next summer season, as it is hoped that a number of obstetric units will enter the thermal stations (Salah al-Din, Nasiriyah and Samawah), in addition to adding new capacities in Basmajah station, and maintenance Obstetric units in the stations (Al-Musayyib, Al-Harith, Al-Najibiyah and Al-Khairat).
Al-Abadi explained, "The Iranian side is currently supplying Iraq with 22 million standard cubic feet of gas, after the quantity was 50 million standard cubic feet," expressing his hope that "the Islamic Republic will return to the supply as it was, to ensure the stability of the electrical system," Especially providing fuel to the added production capacities. "
He explained, "The problem of the Iranian side's reluctance to supply Iraq with gas was related to the existence of dues from the Iranian side on Iraq, which amounted to two billion and 600 million dollars, and that these sums were secured by the Iraqi side and deposited in the (Iraqi Trade Bank), but the sanctions imposed on the Iranian side prevented Transferring the amount, revealing that this issue has been resolved between the two sides, to ensure that the Iranian side resumes pumping gas at 50 million standard cubic feet per day before the next summer season.
Al-Abadi revealed the intensification of efforts and cooperation with the Ministry of Oil to implement a number of joint projects that "contribute to the improvement and stability of the production of electric energy and to supplement it with additional production, as a specialized committee has been formed between the two sides to construct quick terminals that depend on the gas associated with the production of crude oil, in addition to establishing LNG platforms. Which is used to run some stations. "
He stressed that "coordination between the two ministries also resulted in the announcement of licensing rounds for the installation of solar and renewable energy units, as the first round of which 755 megawatts has been transferred to the governorates (Najaf, Karbala, Babil, Diwaniyah and Samawah) and it is hoped that it will enter work next summer."
