On Saturday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the country's support for Jordan's measures aimed at extending "the prestige of the state."

The ministry said in a statement, "The Iraqi government confirms that it stands with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan under the leadership of King Abdullah II, in any steps taken to preserve the security and stability of the country and take care of the interests of the Jordanian people, in a way that enhances their presence, by relying on measures that end to extend the prestige of the state."
The ministry indicated that "the Iraqi government looks forward to more progress and prosperity and to face challenges, so that the Jordanian people have what they deserve under their wise leadership."
According to the statement, the government affirmed that "the security and stability of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is part of the security and stability of Iraq."
Earlier today, Saturday, the Jordanian authorities arrested prominent officials for reasons described as "security".
The official Jordan News Agency, Petra, said that the arrests included Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, Basem Awad Allah, the director of the Prince’s office, Hamza Yasser al-Majali, and a group of other officials.
According to the media, there are "other arrests" that may be announced at a later time.
The Washington Post, citing a "high" intelligence official in the Middle East, reported that Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein was placed under residence in his home in Amman, pointing to the continuing investigations into an "alleged plot" to oust King Abdullah II.
A Jordanian official source denied that Prince Hamzah was detained or under house arrest.
The Washington Post reported that the Jordanian authorities had arrested about twenty other people, while the official Jordanian news agency, Petra, said that the arrests took place after "vigorous follow-up."
The move came, according to the Washington Post, after discovering what officials in the Jordanian royal palace describe as a "complex and vast conspiracy," in which at least one official from the royal family participated, in addition to tribal leaders and members of the Jordanian security establishment, according to the newspaper.
