A member of the Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee, Ghaleb Muhammad, said on Wednesday (July 21, 2021) that the government's talk about developing the electric reality in Iraq is electoral propaganda that will not benefit anything.
Muhammad told  IQ News , "The Ministry of Electricity has been turned by some political parties into an economic body to finance their party, so we have lost more than $75 billion in projects around which there are great suspicions of corruption."
He added, "The government is talking today about energy projects that it describes as major to connect Iraq with some neighboring countries, but in fact that connection depends on providing Iraq with more than the needs of those countries, in exchange for customs and oil facilities and sums of money that will be granted to the exporting countries."
He explained that "the Iranian electricity transmission lines are suspended due to the lack of Iranian production of energy, and it is possible that the project to connect the electricity with Jordan, the Gulf or Turkey if this project is completed," stressing that "it gives Iraq only about 1,800 megawatts."
And he indicated that "this project is one of the quick projects to address the deterioration in the energy sector, but it is not at the required level, so every government or political talk about the reality of electricity in the country is only electoral propaganda."
Iraq is witnessing an electricity crisis, as a result of cutting off Iranian supplies, rising temperatures, and targeting power transmission towers, all of which led to a decline in processing hours during the past days.
