    Yes Iraq: Baghdad
A statement by the Ministry of Oil regarding laying the foundation stone for the sour gas investment project and the opening of the Majnoon Field Production and Development Authority building confused the media circles in Iraq. The statement included a statement by the Oil Minister saying: “We aim to increase production to 450 million barrels per day.”

The Iraqi production is currently about 4 million barrels of oil per day, which means that the figure mentioned in the ministry's statement has doubled Iraq's production to more than 100 times, while this number is equivalent to more than 4 times the daily world production of less than 90 million barrels per day.

After 45 minutes of circulating on social media and the media, including the official agency, the news of “raising production to 450 million barrels per day,” the ministry finally amended the statement to set it at 450 thousand barrels per day.

The Minister of Oil confirmed during the laying of the foundation stone, "The Majnoon field project, which is being developed by an Iraqi administration, is achieving great successes, and is one of the projects that support the future energy industry and the national economy. For the sour gas investment project in the Majnoon field with a capacity of 155 mm, the opening of the Majnoon Oil Field Production and Development Authority buildings, and the electronic control of the field, which is equipped with the latest devices, equipment, and software for follow-up and production control.”
The Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, considered that “the development processes and the level of achievement achieved during three years and six months of work is a great achievement and a national effort, which is one of the distinguishing marks in the Iraqi oil industry,” noting “the success of the national effort in implementing its commitment to the Iraqi government to reach production capacities, and reduce costs by 30%, stressing that Iraq aims to reach peak production, noting that due to the imposition of production restrictions, the strategy was changed to producing light oil to achieve financial revenues for the state treasury.
He added, "The Majnoon field contributes to providing good quantities of gas fuel for the uses of operating electric power plants and other industries related to this type of clean fuel, as well as the production of liquid gas and condensate. As we seek to invest all quantities of gas associated with oil operations in the field.”
The Minister of Oil valued the efforts of the employees of the Basra Oil Company and the supporting bodies of the ministry's departments and companies to achieve this great achievement, despite the economic, technical, financial and other challenges.
The director of Majnoon Field Authority, Diaa Al-Luaibi, said that the field development operations come in accordance with the plans and programs of the ministry and the Basra Oil Company. Al-Luaibi pointed to the authority’s success in digging (40) wells, and the start of digging a new well that contributes to enhancing the field’s production.
