Iraq has suffered for ages from a wide gap between the people and the government. The Iraqi people consider the government as their enemy, which only brings harm. The Iraqi professor of sociology, Ali Al-Wardi, saw this clearly in the general social circles and described it as if they saw a researcher (Effendi) coming to them And he had a pen and a notebook in his hand, and they thought he had come to collect taxes, or for recruitment, or to drive them to prisons, and they used to lie in their answer to him in various ways, lest something happen to them from him.
Al-Wardi says that the most correct way to study society is the one that was brought by the well-known German scientist, Max Weber, and it is based on understanding and the formation of a model example, as it is appropriate to the nature of Iraqi society and its special circumstances.
When we study the social history of Iraq, from its earliest eras until our time, we find that Bedouin values become rampant in it at times and then diminish from it at other times, depending on the state’s position in it in terms of weakness or strength. The state is an important foundation of civilization, if it is strong and able to suppress internal conflict And it was struck at the hands of thieves and bandits, and here the sectors of life (agriculture, commerce, and industry) flourish, and cities grow and people are busy practicing their different crafts.
This has happened in the history of Iraq many times, as it is not hidden, and then we find Bedouin values gradually diminishing, to be replaced by urban values based on obedience and respect.
In the periods when the state weakens and cannot protect people’s lives and money, individuals are forced to take shelter in Bedouin values. They adhere to it more severely as the state becomes weaker. We see tribal fanaticism and the habit of revenge, exoticism, assistance, assistance, hospitality, and the like.
This article quoted some of its texts from the book (A Study in the Nature of Iraqi Society) by Iraqi Professor Ali Al-Wardi, whose first edition was published in 1965. Today, in 2022, we are witnessing the experience of the Iraqi society, which returned to adhering to Bedouin values, as the successive governments in the new Iraq were characterized by weakness and failure to meet the aspirations of Sons of the people, to achieve prosperity in its various sectors that provide the individual and the general society with the safety and progress witnessed by the west and east of the planet, as governments in the new Iraq are still formed by illegal methods and calculations and are not based on the concepts of the national document (the constitution) that the people signed by a popular referendum to achieve their aspirations In a new Iraq he had passed in the era of the dark resurrection that oppressed the land and the people.
Here we stand on the ashes of the questions that Iraqis circulate daily in markets, cafes, as well as public transportation, as well as social networking sites that have become pregnant with exposing the scandals of the government (the three authorities) and destroyed many of the urban values of the people of Iraq rooted in history and passed many experiences and eras, but He is still looking for a savior to save him from the compass of deterioration, which points to Iraq at the bottom of the international lists that measure the level of progress and urbanization of peoples.
Here we see that the Iraqi society deals with its conditions with duality. Either it resorts to nomadism or urbanization, it is inert and deals with the reality of the situation like an ostrich that hides its head in the dirt when it senses danger.
Likewise, the Iraqi does not know what he wants since ages. He prepares when circumstances help him and returns to nomadism at other times. Building a society capable of choosing and determining his future as he likes is a difficult and complex matter and sociologists cannot handle that despite studies and research, because he is accustomed to coexistence and asylum. To alternative methods that achieve his immediate personal interests do not chart a future for him that meets his future [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
