    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, the new version of the Winter Olympics, which will be held in China from today 4 to 20 February, is a global sporting event that witnesses unusual games that do not exist in the Summer Olympics, while the session will witness the participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as its first participation, but that Iraq is absent from the participation, and it does not seem that Iraq has contributed to the “ice” Winter Olympics, in addition to the fact that the Iraqi government did not receive an invitation to attend the event, like other Arab presidents.
The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in the Chinese capital, Beijing, and Beijing was chosen at the 128th session of the International Olympic Committee in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. Saudi Arabia is participating in the alpine ski competition, with a total of 2,861 athletes participating.
The Winter Olympics will witness competition in 15 games, including alpine skiing, biathlon, team skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, and freestyle skiing. Short track, bobsledding, ski jumping, snowboarding, speed skating.
This will be the first Winter Olympics to be held in the Chinese capital, and the third consecutive Olympics in East Asia, after the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, and the last Summer Olympics "Tokyo 2020" in Japan.
For the 2022 Beijing Olympics, 4 indoor stadiums were built to host the 2008 Summer Olympics, and the Beijing National Stadium is scheduled to host the opening and closing ceremonies.

    Arab presence and Iraq absent
A number of Arab leaders arrived in China at the invitation of the Chinese president to attend this Olympics, especially since it is being held for the first time in the Chinese capital, Beijing, where Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad arrived.
Iraq is absent from the participation among the 91 participating countries, amid a complete popular conviction in the absence of sports interest in Iraq with regard to the Olympic Games, and the focus is limited to football in which Iraq has not achieved anything since 2007, where the title of Asian champion was the latest achievement, as well as performance The bad and the decline that the Iraqi team is witnessing in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers, in which Iraq is close to losing the qualification ticket for the play-off even.

There are no economic profits.. Are there political benefits?
On the economic level, the costs of organizing the Olympics exceed 15 billion dollars, while economists consider that hosting the Olympics is no longer a good investment, especially since the costs sometimes exceed the planned budgets due to the waste it witnesses.
Expectations indicate that large revenues will not be recorded, especially with the relative absence of audience attendance due to Corona restrictions, and revenues may not exceed one billion dollars.
According to a study conducted by the Austrian Institute for Economic Research, the Winter Olympics held in the past had no appreciable economic impact neither on the regional economy nor on the national economy of the host countries/while the Summer Olympics managed to increase the GDP per capita by 3 % to 4% at the regional level.
The 2018 Pyeongchang Games in South Korea generated revenues of about 1.58 billion dollars, while the Sochi Games in Russia, which were held in 2014, generated revenues of about 1.49 billion dollars.
While the revenues of the Vancouver Games in Canada, which were held in 2010, amounted to about 1.53 billion dollars, while the Turin Games in Italy, which were held in 2006, achieved about 0.92 billion dollars, the same number achieved by the Salt Lake City Games in the United States in 2002.
Despite all these costs, some countries still find that hosting an event the size of the Olympics is beneficial in several ways, including creating job opportunities and stimulating tourism, in addition to classifying the city as a global tourist spot capable of organizing an event that brings together visitors and players from all over the world.
However, expected political goals may stand behind China's celebration of its first Winter Olympics in Beijing, and invitations to political leaders around the world.
Many expect the Chinese government to use its role as host to enhance its political influence at the domestic and international levels, while China is witnessing a diplomatic boycott of the Olympic Games led by the United States under the justification of protesting "the human rights violations committed by China against the Uyghur minority."
All the Olympic Games host countries are seeking to boost their position through the Olympic Games, with expectations that China will find it very difficult to beat the traditional main competitors in winter sports from North America and Northern Europe.
