Iraq plans to enhance its defense capabilities in the air and land fields by moving to purchase combat and unmanned aircraft, as well as purchasing tanks and artillery, and obtaining several defense systems from different sources .
In this regard, a senior security source told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "There are plans to increase the number of tanks and increase divisions and battalions in order to increase the capabilities of the Iraqi army," noting that the forces are currently using American Abrams tanks and Russian T-90 tanks .
He added that "Iraq intends to send a high-ranking security delegation to Russia, France and Pakistan to purchase advanced drones and tanks ."
For his part,  Defense News,  quoting the head of geopolitical consulting at the  (NAMEA Group),  Norman Rickles, said that "the Iraqi army is seeking to obtain several defense systems from different sources ."
Riklevs said: "Iraq is seeking to acquire the French Rafale fighters, unmanned aircraft and artillery ."
He added that "France offered to sell 20 unmanned aerial vehicles (March) and that the Iraqi Ministry of Defense is currently conducting technical analyzes," stressing that "an Iraqi delegation is scheduled to visit France in the near future to inspect the drones ."
He explained that "Iraq is also negotiating about Pakistani drones, as Pakistan also offered to sell 20 drones, but the Ministry of Defense is still studying this offer ."
He noted that "the Iraqi Air Force intends to purchase 14 French Rafale combat aircraft at a cost of 240 million dollars, which will be paid with oil instead of cash," noting that "the Air Force is close to purchasing a Super Mushak, a training aircraft ."
The Commander of the Ground Forces, Lieutenant-General Qassem al-Muhammadi, had confirmed to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) earlier, the existence of new contracts to import advanced drones and artillery from France, noting that "there are two directions in armament, the American first, where there are advanced tanks, which are the Brahms tanks, There are  T-90  tanks of Russian origin, and we have many of them that are equivalent to the Brahms, as well as there are many armored vehicles and a lot of existing equipment,” stressing that “there are plans to increase them and increase teams and brigades in order to increase the capabilities of the Iraqi army .”
He explained that "there are many contracts that include armed drones flying in Iraqi airspace for 30 hours and capable of addressing targets and continuous monitoring towards various regions, and they have proven their ability and effectiveness," noting that "there are excellent artillery that will be imported from France with high accuracy, in addition to high-precision weapons. Night binoculars and a lot of contracts, some of which reached the port and the other part is in the factories to support the armed forces ."
And he indicated that: "There is a serious desire to develop Iraqi weapons, and there are projects that have been started until we can manufacture them ourselves ."
