    On Monday, the Ministry of Commerce launched a new monitoring campaign to follow up on the work of ration agents in Baghdad and the provinces, and the prices of foodstuffs in the markets.

    The ministry’s official spokesman, Muhammad Hanoun, said in a statement to the official newspaper, followed by “NAS” (February 20, 2023), that the campaign includes the implementation of field tours to follow up the work of food agents, coinciding with the preparation of a new meal from the items of the food basket, in addition to monitoring the distribution mechanisms between citizens and those included. with social welfare.  
      
    And he indicated that "the campaign includes city centers, districts, sub-districts and all governorates, and also includes checking food prices in local markets to prevent monopoly."   
      
    Hanoun called on "citizens to report negative cases or any violation of the delay in processing, or in the case of poor quality of flour, through the website of the Commercial Control Department or the media website of the minister's office to determine the violation."  
      
    He pointed to "the formation of a joint operations room with the National Security Agency and the Organized Crime Department to take deterrent measures against violators and monopolists in local markets."    
      
    He added, "The General Company for Grain Processing distributed more than 6 million bags of flour among the agents allocated for the first quota, and advanced rates were achieved in production and distribution, with inspection committees conducting visits to mills and agents in Baghdad and the provinces to supervise distribution and check supply lists, where a number of control violations and refer them to the relevant committees.    
      
    He pointed out that "the ministry canceled 104 food and flour agencies due to violating controls and instructions during the past month, while the work of 1,500 food agents who manipulated prices or had indications during the past year were suspended through the campaigns of the regulatory agencies."
