The moves of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani, especially in the field of gas investment and limiting the waste of this wealth, have been long overdue for decades, as associated gas is wasted annually in quantities amounting to 18 billion cubic meters, at a time when Iraq is in dire need to invest this wealth optimally to operate Gas stations instead of spending about 10 trillion dinars annually in order to secure the import of fuel needed for power stations, as announcing the fifth licensing round and proceeding with gas projects to achieve self-sufficiency within three years and entering the field of leadership will have a positive impact and a great return for Iraq during the coming period.
The advisor to the Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Imad Al-Alaq, said in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “the government meetings in Washington focused on implementing a long-term strategy to enable Iraq to exploit its natural resources, which are burned annually with more than 18 billion cubic meters of associated gas, whose value is around 6.5 billion dollars annually, in addition to environmental pollution, disease spread and global warming.
On the other hand, a member of the Oil and Energy Committee, Suhaila Al-Sultani, confirmed in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “Prime Minister Muhammad Al-Sudani has confirmed that the agreement with Siemens Energy Company will be in accordance with financial allocations and this main pillar, which will overcome many obstacles that can That it constitutes a major crisis for the people,” pointing out that “the suffocating crisis in the world will change the field of energy as it negatively affected Europe, especially since the lack of Russian gas reaching Europe also are all causes and influence on the side of the agreements at a time when Iraq announced its commitment to the agreement Especially energy with Germany.
On the other hand, the oil expert, Hamza Al-Jawahiry, said in a press interview seen by Taqaddam that “the fifth licensing round is a step in the right direction and will add a lot to the Iraqi economy, in light of Iraq’s dependence on oil and gas exports in the first place,” noting that “the fifth licensing round will be resolved.” There are also some problems with neighboring countries, pointing out that the contracts are expected to add to Iraq’s production about 250 thousand barrels per day of crude oil and 250 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas within 18 months to supply nearby power stations.
On a related level, the economist Dr. Mustafa Akram Hantoush explained in a press interview seen by Taqaddam that “Iraq owns a group of the largest gas fields in the Middle East, including the Crutch field, which contains 5.6 billion cubic meters of gas, and Mansouriya, with 7 billion cubic meters of gas, as well On the fields of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Baba Karkar, and other fields,” noting that “the problem lies in investing in gas, and it may reach 300 billion dollars, and this figure represents Iraq’s budget for almost five years without salaries, as investing little by little is not feasible, and therefore there is no other solution than Going to the licensing rounds, provided that they make the Iraqi workforce 50 percent, provide social care, and their rates are acceptable, and keep these rounds away from corruption.
