    The Ministry of Agriculture opened the door for importing crops and products according to the agricultural calendar, while the Parliamentary Committee launched an investigation into the reasons for the rise in crop prices in some central and southern governorates of the country.  
    The official spokesman for the ministry, Muhammad al-Khuzai, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah" and followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that the decision of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee to open an investigation into the reasons for the rise in prices of agricultural crops in the local markets of some central and southern governorates came after the significant rise in their prices during the last period. And he caused a great controversy about that, indicating that some crops are affected according to the seasons, which causes a scarcity in them and an increase in their prices as a result of the transitional period from one season to another.  
    He added that all crops and various agricultural commodities drop their prices in the local markets when there is an abundance of them, and when a scarcity occurs in them, the opposite occurs, and thus their prices rise, in addition to what is played by the impact of the high exchange rates of the dollar against the dinar, in addition to the political and economic conditions in neighboring countries that supply Iraq. with different crops.  
    Al-Khuzai stated that all of the aforementioned called on the ministry to adopt several measures, the first of which is to open the import of crops and products according to the agricultural calendar, indicating that the decision will contribute to the return of prices during the next few period to their normal state, as happened to tomato and potato crops in addition to table eggs.  
    He stated that the winter plan for the current year differs from previous years, as it was characterized by a lack of rainfall and a decrease in the country's water reserves, in addition to a decline in water releases from Turkey and Iran, in addition to the difficulty of securing the strategic wheat crop due to the (Russian-Ukrainian) war that ended its first year.  
    And the official spokesman for agriculture continued that the above prompted the ministry to approve an agricultural plan to secure the basic needs of the wheat crop in order to reach self-sufficiency, and also prompted the ministry to increase the areas of the plan to eight million and 500 thousand dunums for the wheat crop, and the ministry also provided support to farmers by increasing the amount of seeds from 50 percent to 70 percent, and Dab fertilizer and urea from 35 percent to 50 percent, while continuing to increase the quantities.
