Will the government's efforts succeed in ending the electricity crisis in Iraq?

The Iraqi government is witnessing intensive moves to end the ongoing electricity crisis that affects various aspects of citizens' daily lives and hinders economic growth in the country.
Official sources announced comprehensive plans aimed at improving the energy production system and developing transmission and distribution networks, in addition to enhancing cooperation with international companies to introduce modern technologies into the sector.
These efforts come in light of the increasing demand for electricity and growing popular pressure to find radical and sustainable solutions to the crisis that has worsened over the past decades as a result of neglect, mismanagement and corruption, in addition to security and economic challenges.
Energy expert Ali Salam explained that “ending the electricity crisis in Iraq is possible if the government adopts serious strategic steps to address the imbalance in the energy sector,” noting that “there are several obstacles that hinder these efforts.”
He stressed that “developing power plants and introducing renewable energy technologies can contribute significantly to improving the situation, but the weakness of the infrastructure, the spread of administrative corruption, and the continued waste in the networks are the most prominent challenges that must be dealt with seriously.”
He added that “improving the efficiency of national resource management and cooperation with leading international companies will enhance the chances of achieving electricity stability, but he warned that any inaction will prolong the crisis.”
For his part, member of the Parliamentary Oil Committee, Kazem Al-Tawki, revealed the government’s intention to end the electricity crisis, noting that there are international companies that have expressed their willingness to develop the electricity sector in Iraq.
Al-Tawki said, “The government has placed the electricity file among its priorities for the next five years,” noting that “the fifth licensing rounds aim to invest in the gas associated with oil extraction operations and benefit from it in supplying electric power stations operating on gas fuel.”
Al-Tawki added that "the German company Siemens has a plan to increase the rates of electricity supply to Iraq by addressing the problems of increasing energy production and exploiting the gas associated with oil."
He pointed out that "the government has a strategic vision to end the electricity crisis in the country by establishing new stations, as well as attracting international companies.
