    Baghdad Today - Kurdistan
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan revealed, today, Sunday (November 24, 2024), the latest developments in the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government after the final approval of the results of the regional parliament elections by the Independent High Electoral Commission.
The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Ahmed Al-Harki, told Baghdad Today, "After the ratification of the results and the completion of the appeals, the past period was dedicated to preoccupation with the issue of the population census, but the actual dialogues will begin now, especially since most of the parties have formed negotiating committees to discuss with the other parties."
He added, "It is better for the region to expedite the formation of the government in response to the demands of the masses and improve economic conditions, in addition to finding solutions to the crises. Baghdad is also looking for a strong partner supported by the legitimacy of the recent elections, at a time when the regional and international situation requires the rapid formation of the government."
He explained that "the delay in forming governments has become a constant feature in the recent period, as the Iraqi government was formed in October 2022 after a year of political deadlock following the 2021 elections, and we do not rule out that the formation of the regional government will take a few months."
The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan concluded by saying: "Despite this, it remains better for Kurdistan to accelerate the formation of the government and draw a future vision for governance, and benefit from past mistakes to improve government performance."
Earlier today, the head of the Kurdistan Region Election Commission at the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq, Nabard Omar, stated that “the results of the Kurdistan Parliament elections have been approved.”
He added, "The election results, along with the names of the parliament members, will be sent to the Kurdistan Region Presidency, so that the government can be formed as soon as possible."
It is noteworthy that the general voting process in the Kurdistan Parliament elections took place on October 20, and the preliminary results were announced on the 21st, and on the 30th, the final results were announced by the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq.
According to the internal regulations of the Kurdistan Parliament, the first session of Parliament must be called within 10 days of the ratification of the election results. If the session is not called, parliamentarians have the right to hold it on the eleventh day following the ratification of the results.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party won 39 seats in the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan won 23, the New Generation won 15, the Kurdistan Islamic Union won seven, the Mawaqif Movement won four, and the Justice Group won three seats, while the Kurdistan Regional Alliance and the Change Movement won only one seat each.
