Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the opening of the export door for five agricultural crops, while referring to the approved standards for importing or exporting vegetables and fruits, and confirmed preventing 9 agricultural commodities from being imported.
The ministry’s spokesman, Muhammad al-Khuza’i, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by “Al-Iqtisad News”, that “the ministry has an agricultural calendar program, and through specialized teams deployed in wholesale areas, it monitors the movement of prices in the market, and in the event of an increase in the price of any food commodity.” Through the recommendations presented, it is discussed in the Ministry of Agriculture, and a decision is taken and submitted to the Ministerial Council of Economy, to open the door for imports.
He pointed out, "There are 9 agricultural commodities whose import has been stopped in the past period due to the existence of self-sufficiency in them," noting that "the ministry decided to open the door for exporting some crops such as tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, watercress, and fodder to the Gulf markets and other markets."
He stressed, "The ministry continues to follow up the movement of the markets, and in the event of a scarcity of any agricultural commodity, the door for importing it will be opened until prices return to their normal levels."
