Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Environment explained the reason for the delay in the waste recycling project to produce electric power, while noting that it had received offers from investment companies.
Anam Thabet Khalil, Assistant Director General of the House of Awareness and Environmental Media in the Ministry, said, "Work on this file began more than six years ago, and foreign investment companies submitted their offers, but unfortunately these offers were not approved by the Central Committee formed by the Investment Authority, the Ministries of Environment and Electricity, and the Secretariat. Baghdad".
He added, "The reason is due to problems related to the Ministry of Electricity's tariffs through waste recycling for the purposes of power generation and other technical and financial matters that objected to the approval of these offers from all the relevant sectoral authorities for this file."
And he continued, "The waste recycling project includes burning it and making use of the resulting vapors to generate electric power, and the ministry has provided specifics and special instructions, since this project is environmentally feasible."
He explained, "The Ministry of Environment is a technical body, and the main stakeholders in the project are the Municipality of Baghdad, the Ministry of Electricity and the Investment Authority."
